My Move to Chicago to Start My Doctoral Studies in Clinical Psychology

Help Me Move to Chicago!
I'm starting my doctoral studies this fall at the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. Seeing as my husband just finished his doctoral work, we would greatly appreciate all the financial assistance we can get to move from Tallahassee to our new home.

To give you an idea of my dedication to this field, here's a brief summary of what I've done over the past four years. I completed my MS/EdS at Florida State University in Counseling and Human Systems with specialties in Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling in 2006. I passed the National Counselor Examination last fall and am now a National Certified Counselor. I interned at a juvenile detention center, which led to an employed position. I also completed an internship at an alternative high school in the guidance department. Throughout my master's program I was involved with several projects, including a research grant dealing with the effects of the arts on education achievement in a rural and at-risk middle school and a drug prevention program at a local Boys' and Girls' Club. I developed in-service presentations for teachers and mental health professionals dealing with the following areas: Anorexia Nervosa, Trichotillomania, The Developmental Psychopathology of Anxiety: Implications and Prevention, and Schizophrenia. I also worked with two other peers to develop a group counseling curriculum for children of parents with mental illness(es).

For the past year I have been working on a FACT team as a Mental Health Professional. This experience has helped me to define my professional goals as a future clinical psychologist. I hope to work with adolescent and young adult survivors of trauma utilizing dialectical behavior therapy.

This move to Chicago is the first step towards reaching my goals. Thanks so much for taking the time to read!
